Raman ScatteringRaman Spectroscopy
Raman Spectroscopy records the vibrational fingerprint of molecules by analyzing the inelastically scattered light.
At the IPHT micro Raman spectroscopy is used to characterize complex natural and synthetic samples. The related projects are spanning a large subject area from understanding complex biological systems to the identification of mineral phases (mineral inclusions, secondary minerals and fluid inclusions, mineral melt inclusions etc.).
State of the art spectrometers and laser excitation wavelengths from the deep UV to the NIR (244, 246, 254, 352, 407, 413, 476, 514, 532, 568, 633, 647, 676, 752, 785 and 830 nm) are used in a variety of configurations:
- surface scanning using automated moving microscope stages or galvanometer based scanning microscopes
- combinations of micro-Raman spectroscopy with AFM and SNOM
- 90° scattering geometries with rotating samples and goniometers for crystal orientation
- back and forward scattering geometries.
