IPHT just started with the development of optically pumped magnetometers. Within this development we want to use our experience with extremely sensitive magnetic field sensors. This is based on our long knowledge on SQUID systems, combined with the Institute’s technological possibilities. These include the setup of micro-mechanical devices and the integration of optical components as well as the sensor completion with adapted electronics.

The final aim of this new research direction is the development of sensitive optical magnetometers adapted to applications without magnetic shielding.
