Pulsation reactorsMeasurements in pulsation reactors

- Phase shift between temporal oscillations of pressure and OH concentration in pulsation reactor
Pulsation reactors are, e.g., used to produce nano-particles of defined properties (size distribution, porosity). The combustion process inside a pulsation reactor is based on the effects in the so called Schmidt tube.

- temperature distribution in pulsation reactor vs. phase of pressure oscillation
Pulsation reactors have a constant-volume combustion with periodically self-excited oscillation of the state variables (pressure, temperature, gas velocity). The pressure oscillations cause an air or rather air/fuel supply into the combustion chamber. Complex relations between acoustics and chemical reaction kinetics have influence onto the combustion and unsteady flow processes.
We investigate pulsation reactors using, e.g., laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) to characterize OH, as well as temperature and particle distributions. The aim is a better understanding of the fundamental physical and chemical processes to enable the production of advanced nano-materials.
