Fiber Optics

The competence of this research department is based on the technologies for guiding light. The four research teams Optical Fiber Technologies,  Active Fiber Modules, Passive Fiber Modules, and Fiber-optical Sensor Systems possess many years of experience in the development of

• Optical specialty fibers, including micro-structured fibers and photonic crystal fibers
• Passive and active fiber components and fiber modules, including fiber lasers and fiber Bragg gratings
• Fiber-optical sensor systems
• Optical functions in the nanometer range, for example in nanofibers and nanoprobes

The department possesses its own in-house fiber drawing tower which provides the crucial technical prerequisites for future fiber developments. It is one of the most modern facilities of its kind in all of Europe. This secures a high level of technology for the future and strengthens the position of IPHT as an attractive research partner.
