Department of Laser Diagnostics
Lasers permit non-contact, non-destructive characterization of materials and diagnosis of processes. With pulsed UV lasers, electronic states of molecules and solid objects can be excited with high selectivity, and processes in time can be tracked with a time resolution of a few fs. By means of problem-matched beam shaping and fast camera systems, highly sensitive, spatially resolved single-pulse measurements are made. Specific innovative diagnostic methods are developed and tailored to the respective scientific or engineering task and customized to meet the user’s system requirements.
A broad variety of laser sources from VUV up to IR wavelengths is available for investigations of processes and development of new methods.
Research Topics
- UV/VIS laser spectroscopy on flames and process gaseous mixtures
- diagnostics of optical materials, thin films and components
