IPHT Jena

Crossing Boundaries with Light

At the Institute of Photonic Technology (IPHT) light is the central focus of research and development. The new IPHT sees photonics as the most important key technology of the 21st century. Photonic technology is guaranteed to play a leading role in the fields of information technology and communications, security, material science, life science, and health. It is recognized nationally and internationally as an important vehicle for innovations.

IPHT was founded in 1992 and has led the way in internationally-acclaimed, cutting-edge research since then. With the reorientation that took place in the field of photonic technology the Institute combined and deepened its existing scientific and technological skills. Its ambitious goal is to be one of the best worldwide in the field of photonic technology and its applications.

A staff of about 250 works in eight different departments on customized innovative solutions for practical application. The researchers develop not only new scientific and technological concepts to cross present technological boundaries, but they also implement these ideas in novel components and devices in collaboration with several industrial and academic partners.

Photonics for Life - From Ideas to Instruments

Innovative achievements from basic research ideas to the development of prototypes are available under one roof at IPHT.
